Streetwear Fashion: Interpreting the Style as Summer Comes to an End

Wearing an outfit from Old Navy with the hopes it fits in the Streetwear Aesthetic for the end of summer. A dark grey vest is paired with dark cargo jeans and accessorized with a silver necklace, a black belt with two gold rings as the buckle, blue sneakers, and a blue crossbody bag.

Posting summer content halfway through the fall season would probably be a weird choice if I were trying to keep up in the trend-setting game. In this digital world of the Internet though, I want to drift through and enjoy my experience here.

And in all fairness, California does not like to follow the Gregorian calendar when it comes to the seasons. It was not until this last week that I felt the coolness of autumn hit me during the day. Even at night, the temperature could vary from bone-chilling to a light chill. All in all, very confusing for my brain which wants nothing more than a predictable season tracker based on actual weather and not just the 20th or 21st of every 3 months.

Looks like I’ll just write about an outfit I wore a few weeks ago to wrap up the summer season here, regardless of date accuracy.

I love the streetwear aesthetic, and how open-ended it can be. To my understanding, to fit under its guidelines, you must have at least one baggy item, and at least one of the descriptions of the overall fit should be “casual”. If anything more could be added to this, then perhaps it could be that the outfit should give a Hip-Hop vibe and depict its roots in punk culture (as per my quick Google search).

Even though my streetwear typically doesn’t follow the essence of what I see in the reference photos I look up online, I enjoy my creative interpretation of it. I hope my choices of the fit are within the realm of the aesthetic.

Ironically, both my top and bottoms are from Old Navy, which I feel is contrary to punk values, especially since I find Old Navy to be overrated and overpriced. I, unfortunately, fell into my temptation and bought the items anyway because they looked too good with each other.

I paired my fit with a silver chain necklace and a black belt with two gold rings as its buckle. I do not like mismatching metals regularly, but I can’t follow my own rules sometimes. Blue sneakers seemed like a good choice for shoes as they matched the undertones of the color scheme. My bag was blue to go with my shoes, and it is one I had since my high school days when I bought it at a night market for like $30.
